Every 7th person is a victim of cybercrime

Cybercrime is growing exponentially. As the world goes digital, the situation is only going to get worse. In fact, we're all moving targets for bad actors.

Cybersecurity is rapidly becoming the primary concern of corporations and citizens alike. As more businesses and individuals embrace a digital future, the need for robust, reliable security is going to grow exponentially.

At present, it’s safe to say that the situation is already quite dire. In fact, the cybercrime economy is worth more than $1.5 trillion a year. According to a recent study conducted by Gallup (an analytics and advisory company), Americans continue to worry about cybersecurity.

As much as 67% are worried about identity theft. Another 71% are distressed about their personal or financial data being stolen. In contrast, only 24% were concerned about being a victim of terrorism, while another 17% were afraid of getting murdered.

Moving across the pond to Europe, a recent study called “Security on the Internet,” conducted by the social research group gfs-zürich, found that as much as one million people in Switzerland were victims of cybercrime. That works out to be every 7th person living in Switzerland!

These attacks had far-reaching consequences. For the most part, it had a considerable impact on their finances and emotional well-being.

However, more than half of those affected still believed that they had the necessary knowledge to keep their data secure.

This contradicts the reality of the situation on the ground. For example, as much as 50% of the same internet users stated that they used the same password more than once or for all their online accounts.

This reaffirms the need for significant investment in comprehensive training and awareness-raising activities. It also makes it critical for enterprises to deploy robust encryption protocols across their technology infrastructure.

As ransomware attacks alone are expected to cost organizations an estimated $11.5 billion this year, the time to act is now. From individual computers to mobile devices to enterprise networks, nobody is exempt from this threat.
